Building Virtual Worlds is a a first semester class at Carnegie Mellon University’s Master in Entertainment Technology program. The class puts student in small groups to design and make a game or interactive experience.
Spotted!
My first assignment in BVW was to create a game where the player helped someone else. My team and I decided to create a game where the player was helping their classmates get to class (BVW) on time. The path to class swarmed by Pittsburgh’s most notorious invasive species; spotted lantern flies.
On this project, I was an artist and producer. I modelled and textured the student character models in blender and nomad sculpt. Then I used free animations form Maximo to make the characters come to life. For the lantern flies, I modelled/textured them in blender and created my own animations on the wings.
I managed the Trello task manager and lead meetings for this project. During these meetings I would distribute task and outline our project progression. After each group meeting, I sent out notes and gave updates/reminders on important information.

During the playtest, I surveyed the players, collected their feedback and compiled notes.
