Visual Story is one of the classes all first years take in Carnegie Mellon’s Master in Entertainment Technology program. In this class, students learn about cinematography and create short films in teams of 4.
Each team presents 2 initial pitches and then 1 is chosen per round of short films. For this round, our team created 2 pitches; a drama and a comedy. Our film was showcased at ETC Festival in 2023. Check it out!
My Role:
Being on a team of 4, each of us wore many hats. We took the entire project from pitch to production. Here is a detailed list of my contributions:
- Scheduled and booked all film locations
- Animate daughter
- Acted as the daughter
- Edited the first draft of the film
- Collected all props
Storyline:
In this story, a write suffers from writer’s block after the tragic death of his daughter. He has to remember the time they had together in order to start writing again.
The writer is having a hard time finishing his book. He wants to honor his daughter’s memory but because of her sudden death, he doesn’t know how to envision the woman she could become.
At his memorial for his daughter is a draw she once drew of them together. The little girl comes to life and wants to help her dad get over his writers block.

They then go to different places where they once had great memories. The audience flashes between the animated girl and real memories with her dad.

After they’ve had their fun, the daughter leaves her dad behind and he finally get’s closure. He shouldn’t be focusing on what she couldn’t become, rather he should rememebr who she was. That’s enough.
